OFFICIAL RULES FOR THE 2019 KENTUCKY DERBY BETTING CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY TWINSPIRES.COM

  1. PLAYER’S BANKROLL

The 2019 Kentucky Derby Betting Championship presented by TwinSpires.com (the “Tournament” or “KDBC”) is a “real money” handicapping contest. Players will be required to deposit $12,000, of which $8,000 will be the player’s bankroll for wagering during the Tournament. At the conclusion of the Tournament, any dollar amount remaining in the bankroll remains the property of the player.

A player may purchase and play up to two (2) entries in the KDBC.

  1. FORMAT

Tournament races will include ALL live races conducted at Churchill Downs Racetrack on Friday, May 3, 2019 through the Kentucky Derby (the “Derby”) – Race 12 – on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Again, Tournament races include all races conducted live at Churchill Downs Racetrack during the dates above, up to and including the Kentucky Derby. The Tournament will end on Saturday, May 4, 2019 with the Kentucky Derby, Race 12. Wager types permitted are Win, Place, Show, Exacta, Trifecta and Daily Double only. Daily Double wagers count toward the total wagers placed in the race that the Daily Double begins only (first leg). Players must comply with the minimum wagering requirements noted below. However, players may bet more than the minimum requirements, and may wager winnings from their original bankroll. The following races and wagers are NOT available for KDBC play: The Oaks-Derby Double, the Daily Double starting with the Kentucky Derby or any race following the Kentucky Derby.

The flat track derby rules are governed by the latest changes in the official rules of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) dated March 1, 2014. According to the rules, a team of 20 people can take part in the bout. Of these, 14 can be put up directly for the competition.

Friday Wagering  

A minimum of $500 must be bet per race, on a minimum of 4 different races OR a total of $3,000 must be wagered over the course of all races held on Friday, May 4. Should a player not meet either of the minimum requirements, that player is disqualified from all prize money. In the event of a disqualification, the bankroll remains the property of the player.

Saturday Wagering

A minimum of $500 must be bet per race, on a minimum of 4 different races AND a total of $8,000 or more must be wagered over the course of the two days in eligible contest races. Should a player not meet BOTH of the minimum requirements, that player is disqualified from all prize money. In the event of a disqualification, the bankroll remains the property of the player.

 Contest wagers may only be made on races at Churchill Downs. All races on Friday, May 3rd and Races 1 – 12 (ending on the Derby) are eligible on Saturday, May 4th. There are no caps on payouts. The player with the highest total after the Derby on Saturday, May 4, is the Grand Prize winner.

 

  1. ESTIMATED PRIZES

Of the $12,000 buy-in, $4,000 will be placed in the prize pool. Prize pool is based on 85 players entering the Tournament, the minimum total paid in cash and prizes will be $330,000 ($330,000 cash, plus seven berths to the 2019 Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge (BCBC). The unofficial prize pool is based on 85 players, should more than 85 enter their $4,000 will be added to prize pool. Churchill Downs reserves the right to alter the prize pool should 85 players not participate, but all additional entry fees collected above 85 players will be added as cash on to Top 5 placings.

1st Place – $150,000 (includes 2019 entry into the BCBC)

2nd place – $90,000 (includes 2019 entry into the BCBC)

3rd Place – $40,000 (includes 2019 entry into the BCBC)

4th Place – Entry into the BCBC

5th Place – Entry into the BCBC

NEW THIS YEARThere will be a $10,000 Cash Prize for the player with the highest Two Day Wagering total within the contest.

Additional Prizes:

Day 1 Leader – Entry into the BCBC

$5,000 in cash will be awarded to the leader of the contest after races 6 and 9 on Derby Day.

$10,000 in cash will be awarded to the leader of the contest after race 11 on Derby Day.

**BCBC berth includes full $10,000 buy in for the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge at Santa Anita in 2019.

  1. ON-TRACK OR ONLINE PLAY

Players may choose to play their entries on-track at Churchill Downs or online at TwinSpiresTournaments.com. Players choosing to play online must have a valid TwinSpires.com account in good standing and reside in a state where wagering services are available. Players choosing to participate on-track at Churchill Downs will be issued a player card to be used for all Tournament wagers and may not play online. Players choosing to play online may not play on-track with a player card and vice-versa. Players who choose to play two entries must play both entries on-track or online.

  1. ON-TRACK ADMISSION AND SEATING

Players choosing to play on-track at Churchill Downs will be provided a $500 Cash Voucher which can be used to offset seating expenses. Seats may be purchased by contacting Kristina McManigell at [email protected] or Gary Palmisano at [email protected]. Seating is available to players in the Loft at Aristides Lounge at a cost of $971 per seat. This cost includes Food and Beverage (alcohol included) and is the total cost for both Oaks and Derby Day. KDBC admission also includes admission to the TwinSpires VIP Party in The Mansion on Thursday, May 2. Players who wish to purchase or already have seats in other parts of the facility are eligible for the $500 voucher which can be used to offset their seating expenses. All players will participate in the tournament via self – service terminals throughout the facility.

  1. PLAYER CARDS

Players choosing to play at Churchill Downs will be issued a player card to be used for all Tournament wagers. This account-wagering card contains the “real money” bankroll of $8,000. Upon receipt, participants should test the card in self-service machines to become familiar with placing wagers and ensure the card is working properly. If a player loses his/her card or the card is not working, the player is responsible for immediately reporting the issue to Tournament officials so they may resolve the problem. Players must make only KDBC Tournament wagers on this card.

  1. TWINSPIRES TOURNAMENTS ACCOUNTS

Players choosing to play online at TwinSpiresTournaments.com must have a valid TwinSpires.com wagering account in good standing and reside in a state where wagering services are available. Players who elect to play their KDBC entry online will be issued a separate wagering account with a “real money” bankroll of $8,000. Players will be issued a username and password to access their KDBC wagering account at TwinSpiresTournaments.com. Upon receipt of log in credentials, participants should log in to the TwinSpiresTournaments.com website to ensure they have access to the site and that their account balance is $8,000. If a player cannot access the TwinSpiresTournaments.com website or encounters any problems using the site, the player is responsible for immediately reporting the issue to tournament officials so they may resolve the problem. Players must make only KDBC Tournament wagers on the TwinSpiresTournaments.com website.

  1. PLACING WAGERS

All KDBC wagers may be placed through any self-service machines throughout Churchill Downs or online at TwinSpiresTournaments.com. Wagers will not be accepted through mutuel tellers at Churchill Downs but there are numerous self-betting machines located throughout the facility. There is no requirement for KDBC participants to play in the KDBC from a designated location at Churchill Downs. Players must place all wagers personally. No person shall directly or indirectly act as an intermediary, transmitter or agent in placing wagers for the player, unless authorized by Tournament officials in writing. No player shall make advance wagers with the intent to manipulate the leaderboard. All official track rulings will apply to wagers placed in the Tournament except as otherwise stipulated in writing. The Tournament will be based on the official placement and mutuel prices at Churchill Downs. If a player wagers on a track other than Churchill Downs for purposes of the contest, the player may be disqualified. Please wager early to avoid being shut out!

  1. IRS WITHHOLDING

Should a wager trigger IRS withholdings under the new federal laws of being 300 times the cost of the wager, IRS withholding will automatically be deducted from the player’s card; however, for Tournament scoring purposes, the gross amount of the winning wager will be recorded in the player’s score. Please note for purposes of wagering in the Tournament, only the net amount (the amount received after the IRS withholding) will be available to the player.

  1. SCRATCHES

If a horse is scratched after a wager is placed, it is the player’s responsibility to change his/her selection prior to the race subject to all other Tournament wagering rules. In the event a player is not able to change his/her selection due to a late scratch (within 10 minutes to post) which prohibits the player from wagering on the minimum number of races on Friday, May 3, 2019 or Saturday, May 4, 2019, the player will have the amount not wagered, up to the required per race, deducted from the player’s final Tournament score. However, this amount will not be deducted from the player’s personal bankroll. No penalties will be assessed on player wagers involving any horses ruled as non-starters by stewards.

  1. TIES

In the event of a tie involving a cash prize or prizes, the cumulative value of the cash prize(s) to be awarded to the tied players will be divided equally among the tied players. In the event of a tie for the final BCBC or NHC berth to be awarded, the following tiebreakers will be used in order: (1) most money won in the Kentucky Derby, (2) most money won from all tournament wagers on Saturday, May 4.

  1. AGE INELIGIBILITY / DISCLOSURE

Players must be at least 18 years of age to participate in the Tournament. The following are ineligible to participate in this contest: licensed employees of Breeders’ Cup Limited, National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Churchill Downs, United Tote, or any of their subsidiaries, or members of their immediate families, including spouses, children, siblings and parents of any of the foregoing. If any participant has any ownership interest in any horses running in the applicable Tournament races then all involvements must be fully disclosed in advance to Tournament officials. Those players must play their horse on top ONLY in all of their wagers.

  1. TAXES

Liability for any and all federal, state, and local taxes is solely the responsibility of participants and prize winners.

  1. AFFIDAVITS

Affidavits confirming compliance of all the rules of this Tournament will be required of all players. All prizewinners acknowledge that if they enter this Tournament under a fraudulent name and/or Social Security number, they will be immediately disqualified from this and all future Tournaments held by Churchill Downs. Positive identification is required of all prizewinners. Positive identification is a valid government issued ID with a picture and the same address and birth date used on the entry forms, and/or such other form of identification as deemed adequate by contest officials. Social Security information is also the responsibility of the player. Contestants shall play only one entry. Collusion of entries is prohibited, as is any attempt to manipulate the results of the tournament.

  1. JUDGING AND DISPUTES

The management of Churchill Downs and TwinSpires reserve the right to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to this tournament, without claim for damages or recourse of any kind. The management of Churchill Downs and TwinSpires will decide all questions and definitions covered and not covered explicitly in these rules and their decisions shall be final.

  1. Collusion

Collusion among players shall be grounds for immediate disqualification and forfeiture of all entry fees and tournament prizes. The tournament director and Churchill Downs Inc. shall have final authority as to the occurrence of collusion among players.

All players MUST disclose the existence of financial interests with any other player participating in the KDBC. Players participating in this contest agree to all rules outlined herein and also agree to disclose all financial interests in other player’s entries.
